A Reason, A Season, or a Lifetime?

A Reason? A Season? Or A Lifetime?

Most people recognize this line from a poem written by an unknown person. It can be applied to many areas of our life.

As an entrepreneur, there are always people in various positions, companies, or clients that move in and out of my life and as the poem states, some are here to stay and some are passing through.

This poem really hit home for me this past week.

A couple of months ago I hired a company to assist me with a project. I had high hopes and was excited about the anticipated results. As the project got further and further behind, I came to a crossroad and decided to part ways with the company. The great thing about a good contract is that there are specific tasks and timelines that make it easy to determine if all parties are holding up their end of the contract. This company was not, they agreed to reimburse me and we will go our separate ways. They were here for a reason.

Also, this week I said good-bye to an employee who has been with me for 2.5 years. It was painful and yet we parted as friends. Her life trajectory is taking her down a different path. I could not be happier for her and her family, but still, I will miss her daily presence in the office. She was here for a season.

A long-time friend came over for dinner this week. I don’t get to see her often. Work, family and chores keep us both busy. We talked and laughed while I made dinner and I realized that we connect on a different level. That no matter how long between visits, we always pick up right where we left off. She, I hope, will be here for a lifetime.

None are better than the other, they just had a different purpose. A different lesson to teach me.

As I reflect on this past week, I urge you all to cherish the time you have with the people in your life. They may, or may not be there tomorrow, or maybe they will be in a different part of your story. Enjoy your time with them in whatever capacity they fill.

This video and the message behind it was powerful for me this week and I wanted to share it with you today
