“Prepping is a pain . . .”

The other day I was helping my sister paint the cabinets in her new home.

They were a dark color and she wanted them white. We knew it was going to be a project, we just didn’t realize how much of a project. As anyone who has taken on this type of a project knows, it’s all about the prepping.

First came the sanding, then the cleaning, then taping it all off. It is the most time-consuming part of the entire project. But it must be done.

If not done, or not done properly, the paint will peel off in no time. All our efforts would be wasted.

Once it’s done however, it is all downhill from there. Primer. Dry. Paint. Dry. Paint. The finish product: beautiful white cabinets that will last a long time.

It reminded me of a conversation I was having with Reneé, my assistant. We were discussing the need to update our website, when she said, “once we have an idea of what we want, it will be easy.”

Prep first.

When I speak to clients about selling their home, this is probably the biggest obstacle.  They don’t realize how much prepping actually needs to be done. Or how important it is.

As an example, I will ask if they have ever sold one of their vehicles. Many have at some point. Then I ask how they did it and they walk me thru the process.

Clean it out. Get it detailed. Get receipts of all repairs together. Take good pictures. Write up a good description. Post it for sale.

Easy. It’s all about the prepping of the vehicle.

It’s the same for your home, for websites and for kitchen cabinets.

If you’re thinking of selling your home, our documented approach provides a roadmap from prep to sale because to get the best results you have to prep… no matter how painful.
