Ā
āI have a dream . . .ā
Monday is a National Holiday to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Who, on August 28, 1963, stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and delivered his iconic speech, āI have a Dream.ā
I can only imagine what it must have been like to stand in that crowd of over 250,000 and hear those words of inspiration. I am sure I would have cried with emotion.
Tomorrow, January 19th will be the 3rd Womenās March held in cities all over the country. They too have a dream.
A dream that Women of all ages and race will be treated as equal to men, in work, in pay and in respect.
I too have a dream.
I dream of the day that a real estate transaction will be 100% transparent.
I dream of a time when unethical real estate agents are removed from the industry and are no longer allowed to prey on unsuspecting clients.
In a recent Seth Godin blog, he wrote about āHow to be Honorable.ā
āHonorable men (at least thatās what they called themselves) used to settle their disputes with dueling pistols.
Ā Honorable women used to bind their feet and shame others that didnāt.
Ā Honorable humans used to own slaves.
āHonorableā has always been measured against the current culture, not an absolute of what weāre capable of.
Ā Over time, then, as the culture changes, what used to be honorable becomes dishonorable.
Ā Sticking with it because itās always been that way is truly a lousy reason to persist in a behavior that causes harm.ā
I have a dream that the real estate industry will be the honorable profession it could and should be.
It will take more than a dream, but itās a start.
Dare to dream.
